Steven Winberg, Assistant Secretary of Fossil Energy, U.S. Department of Energy. Steve Winberg took office as DOE’s Assistant Secretary of Fossil Energy in November 2017. In that role he is responsible for FE’s research and development program, including coal, oil and natural gas.
Winberg came to DOE after a 39-year career in the energy industry. He began with engineering firm Foster Wheeler as engineer on coal-fired boilers. He then worked for Consolidated Natural Gas before becoming vice president of CONSOL Energy Research and Development.
He was senior program manager at the Battelle Memorial Institute prior to President Trump appointing as him as Assistant Secretary of Fossil Energy.
