Steve Clayton

Vice President of Communications Strategy, Microsoft

Steve is the Vice President of Communications Strategy at Microsoft.

As a communications leader with more than 25 years of experience at Microsoft across technical, strategy, storytelling, and communications, Steve has worked closely with Microsoft’s CEO and senior leadership team. During this time, he helped shape communication around major acquisitions, CEO change, Public Affairs, company culture and helped bring a storytelling discipline across all of these endeavours.

In his current role, Steve leads the newly formed Microsoft Communications Strategy Team – reporting to Microsoft’s Chief Communications Officer. The primary focus of the role and team is to reinvent how Microsoft operates their communications business – using AI. This includes automation of key operations as well as building a state-of-the-art measurement and insights platform. In addition, Steve and team are responsible for media management, agency management, Microsoft PR events, community, and CEO demo. Steve also serves as a company spokesperson, representing Microsoft with media, customers, and other stakeholders in discussing Microsoft’s AI strategy, products, and technologies.

Prior to this role, Steve led Global Public Affairs for Microsoft and was the company’s Chief Storyteller.

Steve has worked at Microsoft since 1997 – always with a passion for technology and its impact on the world. He rides his bike slowly up hills, rides a snowboard uncontrollably downhills and supports Liverpool Football Club through similar peaks and valleys.
