Rob Hovsapian
Dr. Rob Hovsapian is a Senior Research Fellow in Energy Resilience at SRNL, bringing three decades of experience in advanced manufacturing, national defense, and energy system innovation. His career is marked by leading the development of groundbreaking research environments, with a significant focus on rapid prototyping and digital twin approaches for next-generation energy systems and large load management.
He pioneered robotics interfaces for 3D printing within the Department of Defense and scaled manufacturing solutions for organizations such as Northrop Grumman, TRW, and General Dynamics. At Florida State University and Idaho National Laboratory, Dr. Hovsapian significantly advanced digital twin technologies and established the SuperLab initiative, a federated network connecting geographically distributed research assets between national laboratories and universities globally via the DOE Office of Science ESnet. More recently, at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR), he was instrumental in developing one of the world's largest Digital Real Time Simulator-based validation platforms and the Quantum-in-the-Loop platform.
Dr. Hovsapian also holds an affiliated faculty position in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Florida State University, where he continues to mentor PhD students. In his role at SRNL, he is dedicated to advancing the lab's energy resilience research and providing strategic guidance on its expanding R&D portfolio, with an emphasis on establishing world-class, differentiating R&D capabilities through collaborative partnerships across academia, industry, and the national laboratory system.
