Reza Alaghehband is an Executive Utility Consultant with over 40 years of experience in real-time operations across the electric utility sector. He brings in-depth expertise in power plants, plant operations, and control systems, along with extensive knowledge of industry-leading vendor solutions. His technical specialties include Energy Management Systems (EMS), Transmission Management Systems (TMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS), and Generation Management Systems (GMS).  Reza has also worked extensively with Independent System Operators (ISOs), including ERCOT, and has a strong background in regulatory compliance and quality standards, particularly NERC CIP and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (QMS). 

Prior to joining ESTA International, Reza was responsible for Austin Energy’s Control Engineering and Energy and Market Operations for 32 years. Prior to Austin Energy, he worked for ABB (now Hitachi Energy) and Harris Controls (now GE).  

Reza has been a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas since 1992 and is an IEEE Life Senior member.  He is an active contributor to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), providing input on emerging technologies related to power generation, transmission, and distribution, and is also an active participant in the annual DistribuTECH conference, contributing to areas of Distribution Automation, Smart Cities, and Disaster Management.
