Mamadou Diong is currently the Manager for Dominion Energy’s Electric Distribution Grid Planning, DER Interconnection and Engineering. Mamadou has 16+ years of experience working in the Energy Industry including 15 years with Dominion Energy. Mamadou’s 16+ years of experience include 7 years as an Electric Distribution and Transmission Protection and Control Engineer, 6 years as a Senior DER Interconnection Planning Engineer. In his current manager role, Mamadou leads a team of engineers who study Distributed Energy Resources (DER) interconnections (Rotating Machines, Solar, Wind, Energy Storage, etc.), design and lead Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and Non-Wire Alternative  (NWA) Projects, as well as evaluating Grid Edge Solutions all toward helping to integrate DERs to Dominion’s Electric Distribution Power System. Mamadou’s experience also includes previously leading Dominion Energy’s Electric Distribution Technical Operations, within the DER Grid Solutions organization, which consisted of Engineers and Technicians working among others on DER Interconnection and Commissioning / Witness Testing. He also led a team of Control and Automation technicians responsible for the Installation, Programming, Maintenance and troubleshooting of 4,000 + Distribution connected Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) which are critical to the safe and reliable operation of the Electric Power System (EPS). Mamadou’s previous team also supported various Grid Modernization related projects and the operation of ESSs and other grid edge technologies such as Distribution Statcoms. 

Additionally, Mamadou’s previous work as Senior Engineer focused on DER Integration and Strategies and reviews of Grid Edge solutions which include Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and ESS solutions, experience that are serving him well in his current role as Manager of the same group. In terms of industry involvement, Mamadou is a Senior IEEE Member as well as the current 1547 (IEEE P1547 Working group) chair, which is tasked for the revision of the IEEE Std. 1547-2018. Mamadou has been involved with IEEE 1547 standard series since 2012, thus serving as Dominion Energy’s Subject Matter Expert in IEEE Std. 1547 over 12+ years and by extension anything related to DER Interconnection, Integration, and Interoperability with the Electric Power Grid. Also, Mamadou is the past secretary for IEEE 1547.2-2023 (revision of IEEE guide for Std IEEE 1547-2018). Finally, Mamadou is a member of the IEEE 1547 Education and Credentialing Program Utility Advisory Board (UAB), the IEEE Standard Committee 21 (SC21) which oversees the development of standards in the areas of fuel cells, photovoltaics, dispersed generation, and energy storage; and a member of the UL 1741 Standard Technical Panel (STP), which review proposals related to UL Standards for Safety.
