Joseph Johnson

Sr. Consultant – Strategic Initiatives & Business Development , Tennessee Valley Authority

Joseph is a Senior Program Manager over Grid Research and Development at Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). In his role, he enables the Local Power Companies (distribution utilities) that TVA serves by bridging knowledge gaps, creating incentive opportunities, and transferring technology as the industry transitions to the Energy System of the Future. He has over a decade of experience working in a wide variety of roles at distribution utilities across the southeast from an entry level engineer to VP of Engineering and is an expert is Power System Analysis, Planning, Substation Design, Asset Testing, and Innovative Technology. He has also educated future engineers as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Memphis. Joseph has contributed to the power industry by speaking at conferences, publishing papers with the IEEE, advised on IEEE standards, and serving on local engineer-focused community boards.


Joseph obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University. He continued his education by earning a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at both University of Arkansas and Auburn University. At Auburn, he has additionally obtained a graduate certificate in Power Engineering, and he is currently pursuing his doctorate at the university.
