James Frasher
James Frasher is the Director of Research & Development, Grants and Partnerships at the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). James joined SMUD in 2017 with 10+ years of previous industry experience. Prior to joining SMUD, James most recently served as the Vice President of Engineering at Greenlots and CODA Energy, along with being a founding member of several start-ups. With a diverse background spanning both the private and public sectors, James brings a unique perspective to understanding customer needs and the intricate dynamics of the electrical grid. This dual experience provides a deep understanding of the intersection between consumer expectations and the critical demands of the electrical grid. This allows James’ team to craft innovative solutions that bridge the gap between customer requirements and grid resilience. It is this fusion of perspectives that drives James’ passion for delivering efficient and sustainable electrical solutions that benefit both customers and the broader community. James’ work developing, testing, and funding new, clean technologies is crucial to SMUD’s goal of reaching zero carbon emissions by 2030. James has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
