Herbert Falk has been involved in numerous projects applying cybersecurity to Operational Technology (OT) systems. technology and real-time communications technology to automated manufacturing, electrical distribution, and automation since 1996.  He is the US technical lead within IEC TC 57 WG15 whose scope is “Data and communication security in the field of IEC/TC 57”.   He is the editor and primary author of IEC 62351-6, the standard for providing cybersecurity to the IEC 61850 protocol suite.  Additionally, he has been in the assessment and standardisation of communication security for ICCP/TASE.2, IEC 870-5, DNP 3.0, IEC 61850, and other IEC TC57 protocols and their potential derivatives and is currently participating in the DNP Cyber Security Task Force.
