Frankie McDermott is SMUD’s Chief Operating Officer, with responsibility for all strategic and operational aspects of energy delivery in California's capital region. Since joining SMUD in 2003, Frankie has held numerous executive roles, including Chief Energy Delivery Officer and Chief Customer Officer. Reporting directly to SMUD’s Chief Executive Officer, his current responsibilities span the safety, reliability, design and operations of SMUD’s transmission & distribution systems, employee and public safety, delivery of energy to customers, grid construction & maintenance and operational excellence. 

Before joining SMUD, Frankie held management positions at NEC Electronics in California and Ireland. He serves on the Boards of Northwest Public Power Association, Large Public Power Council Operations Executive Working Group, the Northern California World Trade Center, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership and as a founding board member of the Utility 2030 Collaborative. Frankie holds leadership positions on Sacramento-area nonprofit boards and is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum.
