Andrew West
Andrew West is a software engineer who has worked with SCADA systems for over 40 years, primarily in the utility sector. He has worked for electric utilities, control system equipment manufacturers and SCADA software vendors. He has participated in the development of SCADA and substation communication protocol standards since the mid 1990's, Chairing the DNP Technical Committee since 1999, being Spokesperson for the committee responsible for the corresponding IEC 60870-5 family of electric power SCADA protocols and a member of the IEC 61850 Working Group. Since 2004, his work has incorporated a progressively increasing cybersecurity component. He is currently an independent consultant in this space.
Andrew's interests cover the gamut of SCADA communication standardization, integrity, reliability and cybersecurity issues. He contributes to a number of industry and educational advisory groups. He has Chaired the Australian National SCADA Conference since 2011. In 2018 Andrew received an IEC 1906 Award in recognition of his on-going contribution to IEC 60870-5.
