Andres Carvallo is the Founder and CEO of CMG Consulting LLC (512CMG) and Project Austin. Carvallo lives in Austin Texas since 2000.

Through 512CMG, Carvallo led the design and deployment of advanced power grids and smart infrastructure systems across global markets, including the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Masdar), Turkey, Brazil, and 17 U.S. states. And worked on multiple Smart City projects in the US.

Globally recognized as the “Godfather of the Smart Grid,” Carvallo led the design and implementation of the first smart grid in the United States at Austin Energy. During his tenure as CIO/CTO, he directed a $4 billion transformation program spanning over 2,500 technology projects, achieving a 98% on-time and on-budget delivery between 2003 and 2010.

A true polymath across energy systems, software, computing, and telecommunications, Carvallo has held C-suite and senior executive roles at Austin Energy, Philips Electronics, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Borland, and six venture-backed startups in IoT, telecom, and internet technologies. Carvallo began his career at Microsoft as a Windows Product Manager in Redmond, Washington.

Carvallo is a globally recognized thought leader, having delivered over 500 keynote presentations across major international conferences, industry forums, and executive summits. He is the author of The Advanced Smart Grid: Edge Power Driving Sustainability and served as a series editor at Artech House publishing 48 titles spanning power engineering, telecommunications/IoT, and building technologies.

Carvallo has received 36 industry awards since 2005 and is a Senior Member of IEEE, as well as an active member of CIGRE, ASME, SAE, and SIM.

Carvallo holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Robotics and Control Systems from University of Kansas, along with postgraduate certifications in Business Management from Stanford University, Quality Management from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Power Utility Management from University of Idaho. Carvallo is a retired a Professor of Innovation in The College of Science and Engineering and Research Fellow in the Materials Applications Research Center at Texas State University.
