Moving From Meter-to-Cash to Grid Intelligence
The grid edge is generating more data than ever before: from advanced meters to distributed energy resources, but most utilities still struggle to turn that data into timely, actionable decisions.
This session explores how Southern Company is transforming grid-edge data into operational and customer intelligence through CLAI.ai (Customer Load Analytics & Insights). By combining AMI data, DER signals, and customer context, CLAI enables utilities to move beyond retrospective reporting toward proactive, decision-driven use cases.
We will highlight practical applications of grid-edge intelligence, including EV detection and adoption tracking, behind-the-meter solar identification, and HVAC inefficiency detection. These use cases demonstrate how edge data can be translated into actionable insights that inform both grid operations and targeted customer engagement strategies.
However, unlocking value at the edge requires more than analytics. Many utilities are constrained by fragmented data environments that prevent them from fully leveraging AMI and DER insights in real-world operations. We will share how the Meter Intelligence Hub (MIH) provides a governed, integrated foundation that connects AMI data, DER-related signals, and customer context into a unified framework for scalable analytics.
This session offers a practical view of how to move from isolated data collection to continuous edge intelligence, bridging the gap between customer behavior, DER integration, and grid operations to enable more responsive, insight-driven decision-making.
