Mapping Wildfire Risk Reduction to Utility Operations for Maximized Mitigation
Wildfire risk is growing for the U.S. electric utilities and the customers and communities they serve. Extreme wildfire activity has more than doubled worldwide over the last two decades and has evolved from a risk felt only by the West to a risk that increasingly threatens parts of the Great Plains, the Southeast, and the Midwest.
Building on foundational research from PNNL and NARUC, SEPA partnered with five wildfire technology providers, including Overstory, eSmart Systems, Technosylva, PanoAI, and Rhizome, to develop resources to help utilities navigate the wildfire lifecycle and understand the solutions available to them to mitigate wildfire risks.
This session will walk through the stages of the wildfire lifecycle, highlight how Portland General Electric, Arizona Public Service, and Rappahannock Electric Cooperative are taking different approaches to assessing wildfire risk, and identify the importance of partnerships and technology integration in maximizing wildfire risk reduction.
Attendees will leave with a clearer framework for evaluating wildfire mitigation investments and communicating their value to regulators and stakeholders.
