Emerging Trends in Operationalizing Managed Charging: Centering the Customer Experience
As utilities and their partners evolve their managed charging solutions from small-scale demonstration pilots to early stage programs, key operational challenges, and solutions, have emerged. This panel of VGI experts will share their perspectives on the core components of successful programs, sharing best practices from across the country, with an emphasis on prioritizing customer touchpoints. Key topics include: the role of direct telematics integration between vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) and distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) providers in improving customer enrollment, participation, and retention and the relationship between OEMs and managed charging programs in supporting scaled programs; trends in program incentive design and subsequent customer program impact, highlighting program results across different utility territories; and an evaluation guide for different types of managed charging programs and their compensation structures. Panelists will share highlights from the Smart Electric Power Alliance’s (SEPA) 2026 report on “The Role of Integrations in Improving Managed Charging Program Access,” and SEPA and Vehicle-Grid Integration Council’s (VGIC) 2026 Utility Collaboration Forum report.
