Valuing Vehicle-Grid Integration: Rates, Programs, and Customer Experience
Utilities are actively working to define and demonstrate the value of managed and bidirectional charging, collectively known as vehicle-grid integration (VGI), have for the grid. This panel of VGI experts will detail their experiences in designing, implementing, and gaining regulatory approval for VGI programs and discuss current industry trends. Topics highlighted by the panelists will include: the current benefits and shortcomings of EV modeling for the bulk and distribution grid, the interdependent relationship between rates and utility programs in shaping customer load profiles, addressing internal utility siloes that hinder program success and unlocking the full value stack from VGI services, and emerging best practices from across the country. These panelists have also been involved in Vehicle Grid Integration Council (VGIC) and Smart Electric Power Alliance’s (SEPA) ongoing Utility Collaboration Forum, which is an ongoing forum for utilities, software providers, vehicle and charger manufacturers, and others to regularly discuss and address current topics related to implementing VGI programs. The panelists will be sharing highlights from the UCF’s 2025 report.
