The Digital Workforce for Grid Reliability: AI Agents that Augment Asset Management
Utilities are moving beyond exploratory AI pilots and toward scalable, governed “digital workforces” that enhance outage response, asset management, and regulatory compliance. Following a unique rapid prototyping day, TECO, in collaboration with Microsoft, Neudesic, and IBM, is delivering this vision by modernizing its Distribution Outage Database (DOD) analytics and automating key NERC CIP processes. Through domain-specific AI agents, governed, explainable, and aligned to utility policy, TECO can now surface transparent reliability insights from complex outage metrics, extract field comments from outage tickets, and support new employees with intuitive, natural language access to previously hard-to-navigate datasets. Additional agents streamline CIP003 evidence, capture, and approvals, and assist asset teams with condition-based recommendations and work-order context.
This session outlines how TECO is operationalizing an agentic model across its grid operations: connecting agents to governed data platforms, embedding them into real workflows, and measuring value through productivity, safety, and reliability improvements. TECO will share practical lessons and adoption insights from day one through steady state.
Attendees will learn:
- An agentic reference pattern for outage, asset, and compliance use cases.
- How to operationalize AI safely (guardrails, auditing, and approvals).
- Change management tactics that drive crew trust and measurable outcomes.
