Transmission infrastructure is critical to grid stability, yet traditional inspection methods often fall short in providing the speed, accuracy, and insights needed to proactively manage asset health. In this session, representatives from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Buzz Solutions will share how they are partnering to modernize transmission inspections using artificial intelligence and computer vision.

The project focuses on automating the detection of equipment anomalies and conditions across transmission towers and associated equipment, including insulators, conductors, dampers, steel members, connectors, corrosion, pins, and grips. By leveraging AI to analyze inspection imagery. As a result, NYPA has improved inspection accuracy, accelerated repair cycles, and proactively identified emerging issues before they impact grid performance. .

In addition to anomaly detection, the collaboration is enabling NYPA to manage and map inspection data through GIS-integrated workflows, streamlining asset tracking and long-term planning. This initiative supports NYPA’s broader goals of increasing reliability, prioritizing maintenance efforts, and advancing its digital transformation strategy.

With measurable outcomes in place, this session will provide a real-world case study in how AI can move from concept to scaled deployment. Attendees will gain valuable insight into how NYPA’s approach is strengthening grid reliability, prioritizing critical maintenance, and advancing digital transformation in a complex operational environment.
