As climate-driven threats become more severe and localized, utilities across the country are adapting their resilience planning to reflect region-specific risks. From wildfire mitigation to storm hardening and flood prevention, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to distribution system resilience.

In this session, utility leaders from Florida Power & Light, Vermont Electric Cooperative, and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will share how their organizations are tailoring resilience strategies based on the natural hazards most relevant to their service territories. Whether it’s grid-hardening efforts against hurricanes in Florida, ice storm preparedness in Vermont, or wildfire mitigation in California, this panel will surface the key drivers, challenges, and innovations behind their approaches.

The discussion will also highlight findings from a recent Utility Distribution System Resilience Planning Report developed by the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) in collaboration with Rhizome, which analyzed multiple utility resilience plans to identify emerging best practices and lessons learned across the industry.

Attendees will gain insight into how leading utilities are assessing vulnerability, engaging stakeholders, and prioritizing investments in resilience, shaped by the specific hazards their systems face.
