As utilities modernize their grid operations, the implementation of Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) across multiple operating companies presents both significant opportunities and complex challenges. This presentation will share key lessons learned from the testing phase of a multi-utility ADMS deployment, currently in the second release of its first program stage.

In our first release, Exelon successfully deployed SCADA systems to the four operating companies and implemented a Distribution Management System (DMS) solution for one of them. Building on this foundation, our second release expands the scope to include the deployment of Outage Management Systems (OMS), Switching Order Management (SOM), and DMS across all four operating companies.

This presentation will share insights from the primary test leads that defined the testing strategy and coordinated and delivered this testing methodology across diverse utility environments, accounting for the complexity of integrating new platforms with legacy systems. The session will cover:

  • Strategies for managing testing across multiple utilities with varying operational needs
  • Challenges in aligning SCADA, OMS, SOM, and DMS functionalities
  • Lessons learned from Release 1 that informed improvements in Release 2
  • Best practices for stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration
  • Key takeaways for utilities planning similar multi-entity ADMS rollouts

This presentation is ideal for utility professionals, system integrators, and technology leaders involved in grid modernization, system testing, and enterprise-scale technology deployments.
