As utilities face growing pressure to modernize and decarbonize, technology alone is not enough—organizations must evolve their operating models and workforce strategies in tandem. National Grid, in collaboration with West Monroe, has undertaken a multi-year journey to embed the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) across its electric business, enabling a new era of digital product delivery grounded in workforce empowerment and enterprise-wide alignment.

In this session, we will explore how National Grid operationalized agile ways of working through flagship products like Grid Inspector and m360. These solutions have redefined how field work is planned, executed, and optimized—while also catalyzing new product roles, planning rigor, and team-based ownership models. The result: a measurable improvement in workforce coordination, planning accuracy (25–36%), and business value delivery (67–100%).

Attendees will learn how Grid Inspector helped streamline field inspection workflows, how m360 empowered asset-focused data visualization and planning, and how both products were scaled using standardized agile playbooks, coaching, and engineering support across eight PIs. We will highlight transformation best practices including product roadmapping, PI planning, agile reporting, workforce alignment, and automation of manual legacy processes.

The presentation will conclude with takeaways for how utilities can apply similar approaches to future-proof their operations, upskill their teams, and drive sustainable digital innovation at scale.
