Salt River Project (SRP) are leading the way in grid modernization by integrating intelligent sensing technologies, predictive analytics, and Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) to enhance grid visibility, reliability, and resilience.

SRP, serving over a million customers in the Phoenix metropolitan area, embarked on a comprehensive grid modernization strategy in 2020. A key differentiator for SRP is its extensive 80% underground grid deployment, which presents unique challenges and opportunities. To address the goals of reliability and integration of more Distributed Energy Resources, SRP is initiating a comprehensive ADMS deployment, aiming to enhance grid visibility, distribution power flow, and prepare to implement Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (FLISR) strategies. The integration of smart sensors and their ADMS application was completed in 2025 and will enable SRP to realize the full impact of both technologies in the years to come.

In this session, Salt River Project (SRP) will share their experiences with deploying intelligent line sensors on both overhead and underground distribution systems. They will discuss the challenges faced, successes achieved, and the overall technology solution implemented.
