Nova Scotia Power, in collaboration with Ampacimon, has undertaken one of the most expansive deployments of Dynamic Line Rating (DLR), Ambient Adjusted Ratings (AAR), and Facility Rating technologies in North America. Covering over 165 transmission lines and facilities, and featuring the installation of 129 DLR sensors across key circuits in the crucial transmission corridor, the project enables a new standard of operational awareness.

By leveraging advanced monitoring and analytics which will be integrated directly with Nova Scotia Power’s on-premise Energy Management System (EMS), this initiative enhances visibility across the entire transmission network. Real-time data and dynamic asset ratings are shared with the region’s reliability coordinator, supporting safe and efficient system operation under a wide range of conditions.

This presentation will explore the technical approach, system architecture, and outcomes of the deployment, while highlighting how comprehensive situational awareness supports informed decision-making, transmission optimization, and regional coordination without requiring capital-intensive infrastructure expansion.
