Stranded No More: How Interoperability Safeguards EV Charging Networks
When Enel X shut down its network, customers with JuiceBox chargers were left stranded, facing significant efforts to replace or reconfigure their systems. This disruption could have been avoided if the principles of interoperability were used— using open standards (OCPP) to allow EV chargers to switch to other networks seamlessly.
This session will explore the critical role of interoperability in building resilient and scalable EV charging infrastructure. Attendees will learn what interoperability is, why it matters, and how it protects both charging operators and customers from the risks of network failures. Real-world examples, such as the smooth migration of more than 750 Shell Recharge chargers to the SWTCH network by several east coast utilities, demonstrate how interoperability can future-proof networks and save costs.
Join this session to understand the current state of interoperability, its levels, and its importance as the EV charging industry continues to mature alongside the growing demand for electric vehicles.
