Customer Engagement , AMI

Southern California Edison conducted an extensive market assessment in 2023 to benchmark the current state of AMI technology and emerging technology trends. Based on research it was determined currently available AMI solutions have technology gaps that will require product development from the vendors to meet SCE’s emerging use cases in interoperability, DER management and distributed intelligence space and to meet SCE’s 2030 and 2045 clean energy goals.

SCE has initiated proof of concept testing of some of these capabilities and AMI vendors are motivated to develop these solutions in partnership with SCE in the next few years. This presentation will focus on SCE's vision for the foundational technical capabilities and use cases needed to advance next-generation AMI technology with the following six themes:

  • Interoperability
  • DER management
  • Advanced analytics
  • Home energy management
  • Customer engagement
  • Situational awareness
