Grid operations of the future: How disruptions on and off the grid impact the control room
In the 21st century and more recently in the last decade, we are seeing major technological advancements that are having a great impact on the electric grid. Whether it is the latest technologies such as blockchain and more recently artificial intelligence (AI) applications, or the electrification of all aspects of our lives starting from phones, tablets, cars, and heating/cooling systems, they all require additional electricity to be able to run both effectively and reliably. And when we add in the push for distributed energy resources (DERs) across the electric grid and regulatory pressures to have market models at the distribution level, we are seeing a significant amount of change in the way the grid will be operated and controlled in the future.
In this session, we will break down the various factors that we have mentioned in more detail and will share with the audience a control room of the future where all these technologies will be augmenting the lives of the personnel instead of replacing them, as is the fear with AI and other advanced applications that are being developed and deployed at utilities.
