Getting to zero emissions municipal buildings in San Diego
While the City of San Diego's Climate Action Plan establishes the goal of net zero emissions citywide by 2035, the target for municipal buildings is simply zero emissions. This goal applies to over 400 aging facilities that will need to charge over 4,000 electric fleet vehicles in the next 10 years. The city government is abuzz with action to electrify and decarbonize.
Attend this session to hear from the city's municipal energy program manager about the Sustainability & Mobility Department's efforts to spur collaboration and cooperation among more than 20 city departments and the resulting policies, programs, procurement pathways, and projects driving down emissions and changing the status quo.
Hear about the city's work to prioritize reduction before production and their plan to serve the grid as a virtual power plant. Learn how the city is focusing on equity and resiliency through critical facility microgrids and the development of community resilience hubs that are designed by and for the communities they serve. In this panel discussion, the city will share lessons learned when creating zero emissions policies and advocating for all-electric buildings and operations among decision-makers and implementers.
