FERC Order 881 is a rule that requires transmission providers to use ambient-adjusted ratings (AARs) to evaluate transmission service. The rule was issued in 2021 by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Transmission Operators are expected to comply with the rule by July 2025.

HCL Technologies in collaboration with Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) have developed a solution based on HCL Technology's Volt MX Platform.

The Solution provides key benefits that include:

  1. Improved accuracy and transparency of transmission line ratings
  2. More efficient use of the transmission grid
  3. Improved grid reliability
  4. Improved readiness to meet the needs of the future grid
  5. Lower costs for consumers
  6. Helps to keep customer rates just and reasonable
